I haven’t posted new photographs to my gallery in a while. Truth is, I haven’t taken out my camera a lot this year. In the past few months, however, I’ve started to go on walks following the routes from the book
Calgary’s Best Hikes and Walks. I do this as exercise and for getting to know the parks and neighborhoods in my city a little better. Even bought a small camera to bring with me. The following are a few panoramas joined together using the program HP Photosmart Stitch from snapshots taken by simply panning a hand-held camera around.
Skyline of downtown Calgary viewed from another location further east on Crescent Road. The river in the foreground is the Bow River and the trees behind it are the Prince's Island Park. Here’s the
Google map link of my location. I was facing south.
A view of the Rockies from the top of Nose Hill. Here’s the
Google map link of my location. I was facing west. Zooming out on the map, you’ll see that Banff, for example, is about 100km to the west. Click “Terrain” and zoom out even more to see the mountain range.
A view of the ski jump in the Olympic Park from a hill in Bowmont Park. Here’s the
Google map link of my (approximate) location. I was facing west. Here’s the
location of the Olympic Park. It was of course the primary venue of the Winter Olympics in 1988.
The following photographs aren’t taken during one of my walks but I thought they might be interesting to include here as well.
Here is a composite image (using Photoshop Elements) of photographs of the total lunar eclipse on August 28, 2007. They were taken with a Canon DSLR with a zoom lens at 300mm and then cropped. I fell asleep around the time of the total eclipse (it was 4:00 a.m.!) and didn't photograph its reappearance. The one on February 21, 2008 occurred earlier in the evening here. So I was able to take a sequence of photographs after the total eclipse (below).
