2009 Jasper Road Trip

I drove from Calgary to Jasper, Edmonton, then back in the last few days (June 2-4). Had not been back to Jasper since I went there in 1995. Jasper is a still a bit less touristy then Banff, less hustle and bustle. The scenery en route to Jasper from Lake Louise is magnificent. It was even nicer than I remembered it!

I stopped to see Bow Lake and hiked up to the Bow Glacier Falls. Here’s a Google map link of where that was. Bow Glacier is the source of Bow River, which runs through the city of Calgary, some 200 Km to the east, and beyond into South Saskatchewan River, which joins North Saskatchewan River to form Saskatchewan River, which flows into Lake Winnipeg! The hike to the Falls should take between 3 to 3.5 hours round trip.

Bow Lake is beautiful too. It is just a few minutes from the parking area.

Sunwapta Falls are 53 Km south of Jasper. Here’s the Google map link of their location. You can also visit Athabasca Falls (not photographed), which are 30 Km south of Jasper.

Lake Annette is just outside the town of Jasper. Here’s a Google map link of its location. I took a walk around it. Took about an hour.
