From time to time Id receive a message that goes like this: I use your port of Emacs blah blah blah... BTW I read your blog and you sounded bitter about your work with the FSF people. I completely understand how you feel ...
Errr... No you dont. Thats not how I feel about programming most of the time (thank goodness no!). Among the couple hundred entries I have written, I wrote the handful in which I talked about the unpleasantness of working on Emacs because I felt certain facts and events needed to be documented. But I suppose people just like a controversy. I wish they focus more on the design and programming I write about. Perhaps they might even learn something. Where else on the Web can you find a documentary of a port of a program like XEmacs, such as what Ive written in January? Think about it.
So I dont write my blog to be opinionated or controversial. For that you have the whole rest of the Internet! I like to design and write programs so thats what Ive been and will continue writing about. If youre reading my blog and come away only with what I said about Emacs, Im afraid youre missing out on a lot of good stuffs!
Speaking of opinionated people on the Internet, I thought
this post on emacs-devel entitled Too much arguing! says a lot. People are quick to tell you their opinions on and argue about trivial things because, well, thats all their minds can comprehend.
