Gardening Mistake #131...
When you have sub-zero overnight temperatures, never forget to turn off your sprinklers before you go to bed :-). Pretty isnt it?
Im going on vacation in British Columbia in the next ten days or so. Worked most of last week to write a bit more code for Carbon XEmacs. Im happy that today Im able to make a new,
Carbon XEmacs Beta 2 release.
The biggest change in this release is the use of compositing windows for XEmacs frames. A bitmap context is associated with each frame into which XEmacs redisplays text off-screen, and a custom HI view is added to each frame to represent the area where text is redrawn. With this change, XEmacs's GUI element update behavior is compliant with modern, HI Toolbox specifications. No more QuickDraw calls made indirectly by Carbon!
Therere a few more changes and you can find a list on my Carbon XEmacs web page. Heres a screenshot of its new mule-ized menus.
Unfortunately due to something I noticed recently about how authorship information of my files is modified there, I do not wish to participate in the XEmacs CVS. Perhaps I never will. Ill perhaps write about this in more detail later (I know how you people like my rants :-)). Let me just state at this time that I have been releasing and will continue to release code for the Carbon XEmacs port into the public domain. I usually prefer to write and design programs rather than get political, but this is one small position thats of great importance to me. I just hope people using and re-posting my code will respect that. But perhaps even that is too much to ask.
If youve come here to look for help on the Beta 2 release, I wont be here to answer questions for the next ten days or so. I know youll do just fine and solve the problem yourself right?
Thought I show a picture of some snow on my irises I took last week. For my Hong Kong friends, yeah, thats real snow, in April. You must be going swimming by this time :-).
